Petition to Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health Canada
Dear Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health Canada
I support the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s call for a legislated, national ban on the use of all forms of neonicotinoid pesticides in agriculture, horticulture, turf production and golf courses. Under the ban, emergency use of neonics would be permitted for a limited number of years, but only under cases of severe pest outbreak and with a prescription from a certified agronomist. A ban on neonics will benefit species negatively impacted and help to support their recovery.
With a comprehensive ban on neonicotinoid pesticides and significant investment in alternative options for pest management, Canada could be a leader in environmentally sustainable practices. It’s critical that farmers and other users are supported in transitioning to alternative pesticides.
